Fall 2004

The Faculty News section is overflowing with news about what our faculty did on their summer vacations (including some incredible photos!) and how well they are advancing professionally this year. We also share the news that Dr. John Curran joined our department this fall. We also highlight two of our faculty, Geraldine Green and Ali Mahdavi and emphasize their role in our department. Several of our faculty members retired this year and we share details about that in this section.

Our Alumni continue to do good work out in the real world. We have updates from a few of our former students this time and hope that other alumni will send news! Please keep in touch.

Greetings from the EMU math department! We are so pleased to share our stories with you and hope you’ll enjoy reading this newsletter for Fall Semester 2004.

Our recent Events include a colloquium given by our visitors Dr. Peter Hilton and Dr. Jean Pedersen and our celebration of International Week in the Math department.

Our Students are as busy as ever! Melissa Spuehler, our Doc M Scholarship recipient for this school year, is our featured undergraduate student in this issue.

And finally, the Math Department is pleased to announce the Institutional Values Award in the Dept News section. We are also happy to have J.P. Trias join the department as a staff member running the math tutoring center.

Thanks again for reading our newsletter! And, thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put this issue together. Until next time...
