Geraldine Green
Dr. Geraldine Green has been teaching in the Department of Mathematics for the past 15 years, however she brought with her years of experience as elementary school teacher and supervisor. “I try to bring a lot of practical experience about working with young children into my classroom teaching at EM,U” says Dr. Green.

Dr. Green is a well known and respected leader in the area of mathematics education in Michigan. Dr. Green served as president of the Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) and has been honored for her service to MCTM. In addition, she’s served as president of the Detroit Area Council of Teachers of Mathematics (DACTM) and member of the board of directors for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. For five years, she served as co-editor for MCTM’s professional journal, Mathematics in Michigan, which is published four times a year. A frequent speaker at national, state, and local conferences, Dr. Green always talks about how rewarding it is to be in the teaching profession.

The Department of Mathematics has sponsored the annual spring Mathematics Education Conference for the last 14 years and the success of the conference has been due in large part to the efforts of Dr. Green. Each year, over 300 of our students at EMU and K-12 teachers attend the conference that brings together educators and leaders in mathematics education. “For many of our students, this conference is their first experience at a professional meeting. I want our students to have this experience so they will appreciate how motivating a conference can be and will continue to attend conferences throughout their teaching careers.” Dr Green added, “each year we try to give a few new teachers a chance to speak at our conference. It’s important to give opportunities to the future leaders in our area.”

Dr. Green is devoted to the arts and regularly attends concerts, art exhibits and theater. She has always been involved in her church and is an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
