Math Student
Services Center - JP Trias

JP earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Temple University before earning his masters degree in mathematics at Eastern Michigan University. He also comes with 7 years of experience working with computers. “After receiving my law degree, I re-invented myself and moved into a career with computers,” says JP. “I always liked math, though, and saw myself teaching mathematics at the high school or college level – and that is what brought me to EMU.”

JP lived in Kenya and South Africa when he was young which might explain his interest in foreign languages. “I speak Spanish, French, German, Italian, Greek and Japanese with varying degrees of fluency,” says JP. JP also likes disc golf and poker.

JP has worked in the tutoring lab for two years and taught a number of classes as a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, however, in his new role coordinating the tutoring and testing services in the Mathematics Student Services Center, JP wants to build a stronger feeling of community among students, tutors, and faculty. Welcome JP.

JP Trias is a most welcome addition to our department. JP is the new coordinator of the Mathematics Student Services Center housed on the second floor of Pray Harrold. JP will supervise and train the tutors in addition to developing guide books on a variety of math topics.
