Melissa Spuehler - Doc M Scholarship Winner

Melissa is a senior and is excited about becoming a high school math teacher. She can remember a particularly poor high school math teacher and it was at that point that she knew that she could do it a lot better and make a real difference in young peoples’ lives. Graduate school is also in her future. “I would like to work on my master’s degree after I start teaching,” says Melissa.

When asked what advice she would give to freshmen, Melissa was quick to respond, “Go and talk with your teachers. They’re nice people.”

Faculty in the Department of Mathematics know Melissa Spuehler as one of our top math students – she was recognized for her achievements last spring when she was awarded the scholarship named after Dr Marshall. However, when you get to know Melissa, you learn that she has a wide variety of interests including a sword collection that she started when she visited Toledo, Spain and a frog collection. Melissa loves to run and dance and hopes to be more involved in the theater program at EMU. Melissa is pretty adventurous and likes to explore new things.
