What did you do on your summer vacation?
I took
my family to Australia. We saw lots of animals including kangaroos. We spend
one night sleeping outside in the pouring rain.
- Dr. Chris Gardiner
I visited my family in India over the summer. It was
especially fun to get together with some old friends that I had not seen in
a very long time.
- Dr Rita Chattopadhyay
My summer was divided between working on the Ginther
family farm (an 80-acre crop farm also with about 100-head of various livestock),
and playing my beloved bass clarinet in 19 performances with various groups
in Ann Arbor and Toledo. Mathematically, I calculated that I've played about
six million notes on the instrument in its 53 years (if only my cars were
that dependable!).
- Dr. John Ginther
My husband and I went to Holland
-Dr. Joan Jones
I visited
my family in Romania and I did some travelling in the Carpathians mountains
and at the Black sea coast.
- Dr. Ovidiu Calin

I spent
a week in Las Vegas during the city’s 100th anniversary celebration.
Even after a week, there was still so much more to see. We had a great time.
-Dr Ken Shiskowski
I spent
one week at Brigham Young University in Utah meeting with colleagues and conducting
research in geometric group theory –
- Dr. Walter Parry
I spent
a week in Toronto with my sister and her family. We vacation together every
summer.
-Dr. Carla Tayeh
I went
to an "All-School Reunion" in Bemidji, Minnesota (my hometown).
My sister was able to make it, too, so it was also something of a family reunion
- great fun! The other highlight of the summer was attending a magic convention
in Colon, Michigan. Several magicians who are very close friends of my family
attended. The best part of the summer was rekindling old friendships at both
events.
-Dr. Barbara Britton
I rested
for a week in the Georgia mountains with my family. It was just beautiful.
- Dr Barbara Leapard
I road
my bike from the Mackinac Bridge to Milford – over 300 miles! It took
3 days – eight hours each day. I was participating in a fundraiser for
the Make-a-Wish foundation. Waiting for me in Milford was Mackenzie, whose
wish was to go to Disney. Upon arriving in Milford, Mackenzie and I hung medals
around each other’s neck. That was the highlight of my summer.
- Dr. Kim Rescorla

I had
knee replacement surgery and although that doesn’t sound like fun –
it was worth it. I honestly feel so much better now.
-Dr Tim Carroll
We brought
my mother to China in May. She was very happy to meet her brothers and their
families whom she had not seen for almost 56 years. For me, I never knew that
I had so many cousins. We spent about 3 weeks in China, visited Beijing, Nanjing,
and Shanghai. We had a great time and already planning for our next trip to
China.
- Dr. Kathy Chu
I visited
family in Germany for two weeks. While growing up in West Germany, we could
never travel to East Germany. On this trip home, I had the opportunity to
travel to some parts of eastern Germany for the first time. I also visited
family in Wisconsin and enjoyed the shores of Lake Michigan.
-Dr. Gisela Ahlbrandt
Both of
my children are very involved in dance and each summer, we attend a national
dance competition where they compete with some of the best dancers from around
the country. This year they competed at the West Coast Dance Explosion in
Las Vegas.
- Dr. Dave Folk
I moved
into a new house, and I taught a new online statistics course for graduate
students in the College of Health and Human Services.
-Dr Bette Warren
I took
my daughter to Seattle, Washington for her 16th birthday.
-Lora Durham
My youngest
son, Erik, was married on September 10th. Lots of family and friends from
out of state attended the wedding. We had so much fun and I couldn’t
be happier for both my son and new daughter-in-law, Melissa.
- Jill Nugent
