Profile of Jiansu Liu

You can find Jiansu Liu nearly every morning at 7:30 am in the math den studying. “I like to get an early start,” says Jiansu.
Jiansu is a graduate student working on her masters in mathematics with a concentration in computer science.
She brings a lot of experience with her though. Jiansu, born in Shaoyang, China in the Hunan Province, has already earned a masters degree from China in mechanical engineering.

For four years, she researched and designed products for machines and automobiles and then taught mechanical machine design for about five years at South China University of Technology.
Jiansu chose Eastern Michigan University because her sister-in-law lives in this area. When she left China, she left behind her daughter and husband. Jiansu’s daughter is now 6 1/2 years old, and Jiansu calls home to speak with her each week.
“I hope that when I graduate, I can find a job in the U.S. and bring my family here to live,” says Jiansu, “I would like for my daughter to get an education in the U.S. and live in this country.”
